The Canterbury House, one of Woodstock's original lodging establishments is located in the Village of Woodstock proper. While staying at the Canterbury House, guests will not need to get back into their car, as a leisurely stroll will take them right to the town's many fine shops, galleries, restaurants and attractions. Built in 1880 as a Victorian townhouse, and restored to offer modern comfort and historic authenticity, this bed and breakfast will become a home away from home. With its white picket fence and shade trees, guests will find the Canterbury House to be a private retreat. The large spacious living room provides guests with a place to relax and unwind in front of a fireplace, read a book, watch television or engage in friendly conversation. A complimentary full gourmet breakfast is served at large candlelit tables in the bright, cheery dining room. All seven guestrooms, which are named after the tales in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, have their own unique themes, many of which are furnished with antiques. All of the rooms offer private baths and in the summer, air conditioning. The Chaucer's Garrett room on the third floor offers a king bed, and a sitting area with a television. The Monk's Tale, at the back of the house, has a private entrance, gas fireplace, a large Victorian bath and cable television. Whether guests are looking for a romantic weekend or a relaxing getaway, the Canterbury House offers the charm of days past with all the modern conveniences. 43 Pleasant Street, Woodstock, Vt. From Lebanon Airport: Take Route 89 North to 4 West (Exit 1). At the bottom of the ramp, make a left turn onto Route 4 West. Route 4 makes a hard bend to the right as when entering Woodstock proper. Pass Charles Street on the left. The next street on the left is Stanton Street. The inn is on the left side of the road at the corner of Route4/Pleasant Street and Stanton Street. There is a white picket fence surrounding the property.
