Location. The Castle Hill Resort and Spa is tucked into the mountainside of Cavendish, Vt. The property is two miles from Black River fly fishing tours and three miles from Okema Mountain golf course and ski trails. Hotel Features. This 1905 hotel, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is formerly a governor’s mansion. The manor is constructed of gneiss stone, which was quarried on the property, and California redwoods. Original wallpaper frames the main staircase. Most of the light fixtures, ornamental sycamore woodwork and intricately designed ceilings are original to the mansion. The landscaped gardens preserve the initial footprint of the estate. This smoke free hotel boasts a library, terrace, restaurant and spa. Prix fixe four course dinners are served at the Castle Hill Restaurant, which specializes in French influenced New American cuisine. The Aveda Concept Spa offers a hair salon, massages, facials and other body treatments. The property features a solarium, fitness room, heated outdoor pool and spa tub. Resort homes are adjacent to the manor and provide an alternate option to staying in the mansion, with all the benefits. Complimentary buffet style breakfasts are served in the Castle Hill Restaurant. Other complimentary services include wireless Internet access in public areas and newspapers in the lobby. Guestrooms. The 10 guestrooms in the mansion are bathed in rich, warm hues and dressed in period furnishings. Six of the rooms are highlighted by decorative fireplaces and three of the rooms feature jetted tubs. Each room offers mountain views. Aveda toiletries are provided. Resort homes feature separate living and sleeping areas. Guestrooms include sofa beds, kitchens and hand crafted furniture.
